MEASURE S WILL PROTECT OUR LOCAL DRINKING WATER SUPPLY
For over twenty years, Santa Clara County residents have benefited from the Safe, Clean Water Program through Valley Water. The program has provided local funding to construct voter-approved projects that protect our local drinking water for future generations. Measure S allows Valley Water to continue to implement this program by creating a long-term strategy for safe, clean local drinking water.
MEASURE S WILL UPGRADE AGING PIPELINES AND DAMS TO PROTECT AGAINST EARTHQUAKES AND CLIMATE CHANGE
Climate change poses a major threat to our water supply and we need to do more to prepare for future generations. Measure S will ensure Santa Clara County residents are better protected from the next disaster that hits our area, including droughts, earthquakes, wildfires, and landslides. Measure S also improves the reliability of our water supply and helps prepare for natural disasters with upgrades to outdated, seismically unsafe pipelines and dams that deliver water throughout the county.
MEASURE S WILL REDUCE POLLUTION, TOXINS AND CONTAMINANTS IN WATERWAYS
Measure S helps preserve our local drinking water supply by reducing toxins, hazards, and contaminants in our rivers, lakes, and streams. Some of the proposed projects included in Measure S are continuing to remove mercury in our reservoirs, as well as partnering with cities and other agencies to reduce runoff pollution and thereby stop contaminants from entering our water in the first place.
MEASURE S WILL PROVIDE NATURAL FLOOD PROTECTION
Measure S will provide much-needed flood protection to homes, businesses, schools, and highways to keep our communities safe. While Valley Water has been able to move quickly to protect communities along typical floodplains, Measure S will provide funding to further reduce flood risk, improve ecological habitats, properly remove invasive and non-native vegetation and other projects to improve natural flood protection.
